Life Change Challenge

At church yesterday we were given this challenge and I wanted to share it with you. It’s a great way to start the new year! This is one resolution that I don’t want to see broken! It focus on your spiritual, mental and physical health. I’m going to challenge all of you to do this to! Even if you wait until next month or even July to start, this is a good way to grow closer to God anytime!

Calvary Life Change Challenge

First off, I want to quote two passages of scripture.

Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Did you notice that little 3 letter word in there? ALL Not some things, not most things, ALL THINGS! Memorize this verse, it’ll come in handy, not only for this challenge, but for life in general!

Psalm 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; (here’s the great part) AND WHATSOEVER HE DOETH SHALL PROSPER.” Did ya see what that said? Whatsoever! Not every now and again things will go good. WHATSOEVER WE DO SHALL PROSPER!

OK! Now you can’t say there’s no way for you to do the challenge!

Now we’re going to get into a different mind frame. One you may not have thought of before. Let’s do this for Jesus. You may think “What does this life change stuff have to do with honoring Jesus? I thought we were going to lose weight. What does that have to do with Jesus?” A lot actually. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?” Now you may be thinking “Great, I’ve got a rented body and I’ve torn it up and have to make repairs before the landlord shows up to collect the rent.” Yep, that’s what’s got to be done. It’s time to make repairs. We’ve got a spot in our heart where the shelf God used to be on was knocked down. We’ve got to fix the faucet where the TV drips in mindless, sinful things. We also have to clean out the fridge and cabinets where we are storing our God replacements, alcohol or drugs aren’t the only thing we need to remove before the landlord comes. We may not use those things, but there are things in there we overindulge on or are just plain bad for our bodies. Have we replaced frozen pizza for the meat and taters of our parents and grandparents? It wouldn’t hurt to serve up those taters at the table with the whole family WITHOUT the TV on!

So, now we know we’re in a rented body and we have repairs to make. Who says the landlord is coming? Let’s look at John 14:2-3 (red-letter by the way) “In my fathers house are many mansions; if it were not so I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” So, Jesus is preparing a brand new, rent-free mansion, just for me! But it also says He’s coming back to get us. Do you want Him to find us laid out on the couch, 40 pounds overweight and watching some mindless sitcom? I think I’d rather Jesus find me working.

This challenge isn’t only about loosing weight or changing your eating habits, it’s about changing your life to a God honoring, Jesus centered life. .

  • We are going to change the way we view God. We need to realize he’s our creator, He’s our father and He’s our friend.
  • We are going to change the way we view others. We are going to look for good in others and not point out the bad qualities. Remember, you may be trying to view them through a beam!
  • We are going to change the way we witness. Are we a servant or do we expect to be served?
  • We are going to change the way we look at ourselves. We are going to take it one day at a time. We are not going to worry if we mess up one day, we are going to jump back on and get back in! We may not like the way we see ourselves. Not just physically, but also spiritually. We may not be a size 6 or even 16, and we may have anger issues, pride issues, money issues or issues deeper that we don’t want to share with anyone and feel that God shouldn’t even know.
  • We are going to change the way we treat our bodies. We are going to change our eating habits and increase our physical activity. We may never be a size 6 again, but let’s make that 16 healthy!

Do we want our world to change? Lets’s start with US! Let’s learn to love others as Christ loved the church. If we strive to love others more than ourselves, we will see our numbers soar! I’m not talking about church board numbers either. I’m talking about the numbers of souls being won for the Kingdom of Heaven! Our goal at the end of 1 year is to be closer to the Lord than we are now, have a better outlook on life, and to make wiser and healthier choices for our body. I don’t want this to be a one month change.

NOTE: I will be adding/exchanging things on a monthly basis, but all previous challenges will still be active!
