Hillbilly Sled

I’m sure you all have had your share of experiences with cheap plastic.

We bought 3 $6.50 sacuer sleds when the first snow flakes fell. After 6 hineys and about as many days, they all were cracked beyond use.

My DH got a call from a church member inviting us over for dinner, he asked us to bring sleds for the kiddos to go down the hill behind his house. Well, DH was determined to find something in the shed to use. He was moving the bunk bed and set the “keep you from falling off the top” rail on the ground and it went sliding across the ground. I wish I would have seen the lightbulb go off over his head!

DH pulls out the top frame…the WHOLE top…and proceeds to screw it back together for a sled. We get this thing loaded in the pickup and off we go.

Well, I didn’t take my camera…DUH! But I DID have it the next day when we went sledding down the hill by the cemetery…(I only got 2 pictures, the batteries didn’t hold up to the cold so well)

Hey ya’ll, watch this!

You know when you hear those words something bad, or really stupid, is about to happen.

DH is in the “flower room” building a shelf for all the books that he’s tired of seeing on the floor. I’m in the kitchen getting ready for the Christmas dinner that’s supposed to be at our house the next day. I hear one of the twins screaming, so I go to investigate. There she is, laying on the top shelf, bawling her eyes out and hanging on for dear life. In each shelf below her, is another child. Seems DH counted the shelves and thought “5 shelves, 5 kids, yep, they’ll fit” and stacked them all in. And, being the wonderful mom I am, I tell DD4 to hold on a second, and I went and got the camera, snapped a couple of shots and then let her down. You can’t miss an opportunity like that, you HAVE to have pictures! Besides, they won’t climb the shelves if they’re scared to death to be at the top!

Welcome to Hillbilly Holler!

YEP, that’s a hose roller. DH had to fix the wheels because they got broke off during one of the “laps” but all is well, the “off-road-vehicle” lived to see another day and the kids haven’t killed each other on it yet! Proof that kids and men have the same level of joy. Men are really easy to make happy, give them something with a motor, a little rope and kids with a really active imagination!

And I don’t know if you’ve ever had a hose roller, but they are made to wind up a hose, that means they turn a full circle, how the kids stay on and don’t roll themselves off is beyond me! The 13 year old DD decided she was not riding that thing behind her father! So there are no pictures of her on it. (Smart Girl!!)
